Will Cheung FRPS at Reigate
On Saturday, 23rd February, Will Cheung FRPS will be making a presentation at 7pm in the Reigate Methodist Church, adjacent to the Reigate Community Centre. The presentation is entitled “My Passion for Photography”. Visitors to this presentation will be able to visit the Reigate Photographic Society’s 75th Exhibition before the presentation begins and during the refreshment interval.

Will has been a keen photographer for over 30 years and achieved the FRPS distinction back in 1983. He joined the staff of Practical Photography magazine in 1985 and worked there until 2004. He edited the magazine for many of those years. He then edited Photography Monthly and helped launch Advanced Photographer in 2010, the magazine he currently edits.

He specialises in being a non-specialist and photographs a wide range of subjects. Will tells us that his talk will cover from natural history and portraits to street photography and travel work, much of the time using his favoured medium of monochrome. Apart from talking about the techniques he uses. he aims to encourage people to simply enjoy their photography.

Tickets for the Will Cheung evening at £7.50 are available in advance on-line at rpscontact@btinternet.com.

This venue has a limited seating capacity so please make contact using the above e-mail address as soon as possible.

This presentation is part of the Reigate Photographic Society 75th Anniversary and on Friday and Saturday 22nd and 23rd February there will be an Exhibition of work by past and present members of the Society. There are also a number of local prints by Francis Frith that have been re-taken by current members of the Society. And with an eye to future membership there are prints by pupils of local schools who entered our Young Photographer of the Year competition.

The Exhibition is being held in the Reigate Community Centre, High Street, Reigate, RH2 9AE between 12 noon and 5pm on 22nd and between 10am and 5pm on 23rd. Admission to the Exhibition is free. Whilst at the events you may enter a raffle for prizes including Zeiss binoculars and a Canon Ixus camera plus many other prizes.

Members of the Society have also been working with local shopkeepers and businesses and prepared a Reigate Town Trail with 40 local shopkeepers participating in displaying photographs of their business and their staff, along with entry forms for another competition with more star prizes including another Canon Ixus camera donated by Canon.

Local parking is available in the Reigate Car Parks. (Please be warned that the Morrison Supermarket Car Park uses registration recognition cameras and fines motorists who overstay during store opening hours)

Carshalton CC Diamond Jubilee
You may know that Carshalton CC is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. Their keynote speaker for the year is Mike Maloney OBE.
This event will take place on Monday, March 11th 2013 from 8.00pm at Carshalton Camera Club, Carshalton Methodist Church, Ruskin Road, Carshalton SM5 3DE.
Mike is Britain's most decorated press photographer by far, with 107 major prizes to his name. Three times voted Press Photographer of the Year, he was Chief Photographer for Mirror Group Newspapers before turning freelance in 2002. He also has numerous royal tours to his credit, as well as photographing world leaders like Clinton, Reagan, Gorbachev and Yeltsin - with resulting invitations to dine at both the White House and the Kremlin.
Mike is a Freeman of the City of London, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Arts degree by the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, for "a lifetime's work in photography and his help to young people." At the ceremony in Lincoln Cathedral he was able to read out a personal letter of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother - Mike was known to be the Queen Mother’s favourite press photographer.
In 2005 Mike Maloney became the first "Fleet Street" photo-journalist ever to be awarded the OBE. More recently (2012) he has been appointed Professor of Photography by the University of Lincoln. This is the first time that a Fleet Street photographer has been given this honour. In addition, he is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photographers.
Mike is a hugely entertaining speaker with a wealth of stories to tell. Clients have included: P&O, Cunard, Fred Olsen Lines, Thompson Cruises and Airtours as well as countless television and radio appearances over the years.
We are very privileged to host such an eminent speaker. The cost will be £6.00 in advance, or £7.00 on the door, to include free refreshments.
