Backing Bookham - an exhibition by Monica Weller ARPS and Gareth Dancer

14th February 2012
Monica Weller ARPS - a well known member of the club - is, with Gareth Dancer, holding an exhibition in Bookham from Tuesday 28th Feb 2012 to Saturday 31st March at Mimi's Tea Rooms in Bookham.

Monica says the following about her exhibition:

"Pattie Talbot who runs Mimi’s Tea Room in Church Road, Bookham, asked if I would hold an exhibition of my photos along with another local photographer Gareth Dancer, in her tea room. An exhibition amongst Pattie’s home-baked cakes not only sounded appealing and it would be a good way of promoting the village, doing our bit to keep it alive particularly during the cold months of the New Year."

"I’ve kept an almost daily photo record of people I meet in the village, on the way to the post office, taking a shortcut through the churchyard, having a coffee in one of the village cafes. You could describe these photographs as a tribute to a place I love. But it’s also an exercise to keep my photo fingers and eyes active and prevent them from getting stuck in a rut! The photos, all black and white, are not so much art, even though monochrome is considered arty, they are more snapshots; such is the nature of a daily record. Included in my photographic offering is a host of Bookham personalities including: the butcher, the baker and the Children’s Trust charity shop manager, a traffic warden, the library manager, our Dairy Crest milkman, the vicar, and Beverley who runs the florist's shop".
